As
I’m going down Interstate 80 I see one of
those great American sights – a train with
two locomotives and about 100 freight cars.
I quickly pass by the train and get up the
road five or six miles and find an exit and
am able to position myself pretty close to
the tracks to get some pictures. I’m
shooting my photos with the compact Sony
S500, and wish I had taken the time to
unload the Nikon D100 and all the stuff that
goes with that… the S500 will have to do
(it’s a great camera). As the train comes
around the bend, the engineer sees me and
gets on the train whistle – it was cool. My
friend Tom – a certifiable train nut would
have enjoyed it. The engineer let the
whistle go a few times and then really laid
it on – it was a long, piercing, soulful
sound. You had to be there – but it was very
cool.
